Live Review : Humanoid City Tour - Oberhausen (Germany), February 26th, 2010

Decided on a whim to go when I saw they'd put on sale a new batch of tickets, right on the side of the stage. Figured the sight would be either good or limited, but a different angle that I'll get at other shows anyway.

Since there's been a train accident 10 days ago affecting the Thalys line, the trip to Oberhausen was quite difficult, 8 hours with a change of train and a 2 hours wait in Brussels, making me wonder if it was really a good idea...
But I finally made it to the CentrO, where the venue is.

A look at the stage before the show A look at the stage before the show
or I wouldn't have realized all the "rusty" effect added on all the props
The show started with Komm (links are for videos) :

Komm - Tokio Hotel - Oberhausen, Feb 26, 2010

One of the critics against the band is that they're evil or the product of the evil music industry. But this stage set reveals the truth about who's the evil mastermind behind it all : Gustav is Darth Vader.

Bearth Vader!
(never mind me, I'm just a big geek.
For the reference :

Though if you're German, you might also enjoy this version (in Köslch) :

... Damn, Bill. I usually don't have naughty thoughts about you, but...
Bill dropped the first costume quite early to go with just the pleather combi for a while. It does bad things to a fan's mind, that one Oo

Spikey!Bill will blind you!
Georg won't even watch, he knows

Girls from the German fan-club gave out flyers about 3 fan-actions planned for the night :
- throwing ballons on the refrains of Komm
- "ocean of lights" : singing the ohohoh and raising glowsticks on Lass uns Laufen. I actually had my own glosticks because when I saw Bill's outfits in the report about the tour's preparation, I felt the need to glow in unison with him. Great minds think alike : you can buy TH electric glowy stick as merchandising...
- keeping silent on Zoom

Sea of lights fan-action

There was an acoustic bridge half-way of the concert, and the choice of songs for it was unexpected (for the unspoiled) : Humanoid and Geisterfahrer

Humanoid and Geisterfahrer, Tokio Hotel, Oberhausen, Feb 26, 2010

IMO Humanoid sounds really strange there... Not unpleasant, but takes some time to adapt to, as it's so different from the CD. Not complaining, though, it was always a little regret as well as a relief to me that their live versions were so close to the studio ones.
Especially after seeing so many shows of them, more variety in orchestration is welcome.

And for Geisterfahrer, it works really well. Thankfully, since it's one song I was especially looking forward to, and... ♥ It delivers

One for the Georg-fans
Good thing I'd been spoiled about this, it still made me lol a bit though

The bike thing was for Dogs Unleashed.

My seat ended up being really good. Like, really. 8th row from the bottom, right next the stage on the right. Squee.
I feared we'd only see the guys' profiles for the entire show, but in addition to Georg and Bill climbing on our side a few times, Bill often sang our way, like there. Tom is also very much into it, singing along the whole time. Georg also did, and I wish they opened their mics more often.

I expect a bat-car at the next show
The next one was during In your shadow (I can shine), if I recall?

Obligatory seating scene
And then they got back to rocking the (Ober)haus(en)

Hagen is always putting on a show

Thing #543 I love about this band : each time I think they're lacking something, they end up bringing it.

In that case, after seeing other bands do it, I'd thought it would be good for them, for the variety of the show as well as their credibility, to show more versatility with instruments and in the orchestration.
And ta-daaa! They do it. Earlier than I expected, may I add, since they still are quite young.

And then they also come back to the power songs I love so much about them, too :

Sonnensystem, Tokio Hotel, Oberhausen, Feb 26, 2010

I must say, even from where I was seating, I felt the heat of those flamethrowers... It's impressive ^^

Piano!Tom for Zoom

I took more pictures than video because videos take up more attention, and I wanted to enjoy the show.

The shows get fiercer... but still the dorky boy surfaces *grin*
Bow down on your knees, your master comes forward
Uh, Tom? Your piano is on fire. Just saying.
Beats the breaking-a-guitar-on-stage gimmick, I figure

Yes Bill, we're very happy to be here too

I know it's a stage trick, but it works anyway. And they did look happy to be there, playing to a full Arena, and able to do long speeches and know that most people would understand... (not me though :P My German is still too rusty)

The whole stage
Awww, they kept a together-on-the-stage-walk routine, for DDM!

Tom, Georg and Gustav salute the crowd before the finale

I feel sorry for the little girl that her mother dragged out of the venue after this, because she missed the finale...

Again on "list of things I love about TH" : one thing I really loved from the previous shows, no matter how silly it is, was the rain of silver confettis in the end, during An Deiner Seite.
They almost kept it... on Für Immer Jetzt, except now it's red and blue (or red and black, depending on the shows) instead of silver XD

Für Immer Jetzt, Tokio Hotel, Oberhausen, Feb 26, 2010

With that, the guys went back to their own little world in their shiny metal sphere... ♥
And we went back to our lives.

The trip back to my home took me over hours due to train damage, delays and such, and I caught another pharyingitis or something (over the coarseness of singing my heart out for 2 hours), so I had bouts of fever and throat pain, but I didn't care because GOOD SHOW, GOOD PUPPIES, MY BABY BAND IS BACK, YAYE! ♥

... That's the Tokio Hotel effect for you.
